It was agreed by the InterMARGINS Steering Committee, meeting in Nice, France in April 2002, that two forms of sponsorship should be investigated to support research on continental margins at an international scale.

    First, InterMARGINS is keen to support the idea of sponsoring workshops on conjugate pairs of rifted continental margins. Almost without exception conjugate margins are in different countries and for scientists working on such margins to collaborate and exchange ideas requires specific assistance or incentives. The Committee is keen to consider suggestions detailing what assistance may be required, for example in the form of travel grants, to set up such meetings.

    Second, it was also agreed that InterMARGINS should sponsor special sessions at conferences and could financially assist speakers or perhaps students with travel to such meetings. It might however be appropriate to give first priority to assisting people from countries that were fully paid-up members of InterMARGINS. Again the Committee is keen to consider requests for such sponsorship.

    All requests for sponsorship should be directed to the Chairperson of InterMARGINS, Dr. Wonn Soh, in the first instance.
