Scientific objectives :    Researchers from universities in Alaska, Oregon and Florida plan to conduct seafloor profiling and sediment coring this summer in Southeast Alaska, the Gulf of Alaska, and Prince William Sound. This project is one part of a worldwide survey funded by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) to locate sedimentary records of environmental change to better understand the potential impacts of future global warming. Specifically, the Alaska surveys are designed to study the regional effects of glacier melting on the global climate as well as biological productivity, including fish, of the North Pacific Ocean.
