Summary of a recent cruise on margins research (RU.032)

Location :   Nuuk - West Greenland (Leg 4)

Research ship :   Professor Logachev

Sails :   Nuuk, West Greenland, 13 Aug 2003

Docks :   Nuuk, West Greenland, 31 Aug 2003

Scientific objectives :

Area 7 :   Essential elements will be the study of the lithological characteristics and age of the Pre-Neogene seabed outcrops, including volcanics, which are often present on seabed highs and the flanks of (turbidite) canyons and valleys extending from the shelf into the deep-water basin (> 2000 m ). Studies are also planned of shallow subseabed strata and seabed morphological features (like diapirs and pockmarks) possibly indicative of fluid/gas escape.
