Scientific objectives :   iSIMM (integrated Seismic Imaging and Modelling of Margins) is a LINK Margins programme joint between academia, industry, NERC and the DTI to study the structure and development of rifted continental margins. In summer 2002 we shot two major seismic, gravity and magnetic surveys, one crossing the Faroes-Shetland Trough and shelf and into the Norwegian Sea, the other crossing Hatton-Rockall Basin, Hatton Bank, and into the Iceland Basin oceanic crust. Each survey used 90 4-component ocean bottom seismometers, and a large (6,300 cu inch) airgun array shot deep (18-20 metres) to give a broad-band waveform rich in low frequencies. The Rockall-Hatton Bank OBS profile was acquired simultaneously with the NERC 3-km mcs streamer. The Faroes profile was over-shot for iSIMM by WesternGeco using 3 Q-Marine streamers (4-12-4 km long), and a 10,100 cu in. source towed deep for low-frequency penetration.
