Scientific objectives :   Scientific objectives of NT02-09 Natsushima/Shinkai leg 3 at Suiyo seamount in the Izu-Bonin Arc are 1; measurements of in situ methane oxidation rate, bacterial density and growth rate, hydrogen, SiO2 and other chemical and physiological (heat fluxetc.) factors, and 2; sampling of hydrothermal fluids, bivalves and sediments for microbiological and chemical analysis.
