Scientific objectives :   The main objective was to study marine gas hydrates. The ship worked in the gas hydrate province offshore Oregon (USA) and a) deployed long-term observatories to monitor mechanisms that control the formation and dissociation of gas hydrate b) examined near-surface gas hydrates focussing on their structure and the conditions leading to their formation and c) documented the chemical turnover and microorganisms in marine sediment containing gas hydrate.
