The aim of the SISMAR
cruise was to image the deep crustal structure of the Atlantic Moroccan
margin along 2 transects: one, off El Jadida, crossing the early
Jurassic Atlantic margin, the other north of Casablanca crossing the
E-W North African Tethyian margin. We carried out deep seismic
reflection recording (3600 km )(air guns source 4800 cub in, tuned to
single bubble mode, a 4500 m long and 3660 channels streamer). In
addition, we deployed OBS-OBH at sea (48 locations) and seismic land
stations (33 locations) along selected profiles. Objectives include:
The continent ocean boundary, The transition from volcanic to non
volcanic margin, The extent of the salt basins and what is their
substratum, What is the transitional crust made of? Serpentinized
mantle? Intruded continental crust? or non-typical oceanic crust? See http://www-sdt.univ-brest.fr/~sismar/
